We are floating our boats in honour of Jo! Join our Float your Boat Great Get Together events this weekend

As part of The Great Get Together, south east London residents are invited to ‘float their boats’ and join in a miniature boat flotilla on the River Quaggy on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of June. The Great Get Together is a nationwide celebration of our diversity and what we have in common, in memory of Jo Cox.

Jo lived in a houseboat on the Thames – which links to southeast London through Deptford Creek and the River Quaggy. These rivers flow through and link many communities which may have little to do with each other normally, but still have much in common.
Float Your Boats will celebrate these communities coming together by inviting people to launch miniature boat flotillas in local parks.

Anyone is welcome to bring a boat, which can be homemade or a childhood toy – as long as it floats! On both days, there will also be a stall to help people build boats out of natural materials, with Forries Education helping on the Saturday at Manor Park.
Even if you don’t float a boat, you can bring along a picnic to enjoy the event with friends and family.

The event is being organised by Quaggy Waterways Action Group with the help of Heidi Alexander and Vicky Foxcroft, who were friends of Jo and worked with her in Parliament. Everyone is welcome, so come along, have some fun and celebrate the things we have in common.
