Catford Food Market – south east London’s newest urban food space

Some of south east London’s most exciting food businesses will be showcased at the Catford Food Market which kicks off on Sunday 25 March from 10am–4pm and will take place on the last Sunday of the month.

The market will give savvy locals an opportunity to connect with the emerging street food scene and give food producers and small independent businesses the opportunity to raise their profiles.

By implementing recommendations submitted at catfordtowncentre.commonplace.is – the online engagement platform collecting people’s aspirations for the town centre – Catford Food Market aims to create real opportunities to develop and sustain new businesses, that complements the existing offer and meets local people needs.

International flavours offered by local traders include Caribbean fayre from Jerk Off BBQ, north east Indian delights from Raastawala, Japanese delicacies from Fuse Love and Italian inspired sourdough pizza from Van Dough. There’ll also be cakes from Brett & Bailey and Miss Flits Vegan Bakes, and bread and pastries from Claude’s Boulangerie. Non-food treats include multicultural children’s books from This is Book Love and work by local Catford artists and designers including Hazel Nicholls.

You can also get your hands on Catford’s newest custom beverages including: Catford Cream Soda and Catford Cola as well as Tom Cat Six gin and Catford Pride pale ale, both of which launched popular drinks festivals last year.

Emanuela Mansi of Pastificio Mansi, who’ll be offering fresh hand crafted pasta, says: ‘I’m really looking forward to trading in Catford again! I launched my business at the previous monthly market in 2012 after completing a Council run training course on how to start a street food business and my business has gone from strength to strength. I’m looking forward to seeing all of my old customers and to attracting new ones’.

Catford Food Market is a great chance to see just how much is happening in SE6 offering an experience that the internet simply can’t match. It also has seating for all ages and disabled and baby change friendly facilities. It’s centrally located on Catford Broadway and completely free to attend.

The monthly market will also feature a variety of arts, crafts and music events for children. A number of new community events will also happen in May such as the Jollof Rice competition – the first of its kind in London – and a pop up outdoor cinema showing Black Panther and Wonder Woman.

So whether you’ve lived in Catford for months or decades or are visiting for the first time, Catford Food Market will give you a new sense of the town centre. Team Catford will also be there to hear people’s views and aspirations for the town centre
