MBE for local Catford South community volunteer!

It was announced this week that local man Peter Ranken became an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2016!

Peter is chair of the Archibald Corbett Society and the juggernaut behind the raising of over £500,000 to renovate the Abbotshall Road playing fields and the establishing of the Abbotshall Road Healthy Lifestyle Centre and community cafe.

Once the playing fields consisted of a lots of grass and a rickety portakabin and now it is a real local hub with dance studios, meeting rooms, multiple sports fields, changing rooms and a fantastic cafe. It is registered as a community asset and community run.

Some of his most recent achievements have been securing funding for local people to access 13 weeks of free health mentoring and activity through the Active Lifestyles for All Project (ALFA) and coming second in a public vote, securing £10,000 of Tesco bags of help funding to develop a disused piece of land at Abbotshall to create an Urban Wildlife retreat.

Peter has also been instrumental in helping to make Catford South the First Accredited Dementia Friendly community in Lewisham, just applying to be a part of the Lewisham Dementia Action alliance and developing a programme of activities specifically for local people living with Dementia…we know there is still more to come!

Peter is also a regular at the Catford South local Assembly filling in the community on all the great things happening with projects.

Peter, congratulations on your achievements being recognised nationally and thank you! 🙂
