- Catford Picture Palace Sangley Road. Catford provided entertainment for itself and for Lewisham as a whole. It had a theatre, three cinemas and a roller skating rink. The Electric Picture Palace shown here was the first of these when it opened in 1909. The much larger Central Hall Picture House was next door.

- Entry in the parish records for 1593 recording the burial of ‘Cornelius a Blackamoor’ on 2nd March at St Margaret’s, Lee This is the first evidence we have of the residence of a black person in Lewisham borough. We have no further information regarding his age, status or job. He could have been a sailor, servant or shopkeeper
